Shooting the film took place in the period from January 19 to 23 at the former Cipó Branco Sugar Mill in the Municipality of São Vicente Ferrer, Pernambuco, which was kindly conceded for that purpose by Mrs. Margarida Moura Cavalcanti (‘Dona Sussu’).

The director of photography, Beto Martins, accepted the challenge of lighting for night with a very shallow focus.
.
The Cipó Branco Mill was an inspiring location. There we not only found the necessary scenarios but all the extras we needed as well. Suddenly the mill workers and their children became an integral part of the creative process, enriching the characters they represented with their gestures and expressions.

Film Things
At the last minute we decided that the overcoat that had been made for Dr. Baum was not exactly the one we needed. How then could we produce such an import piece of costume when there were only three hours to go before filming began?
Find out the solution from our costume designer Andrea Monteiro, who was responsible for Dr. Baum’s charming grey cape.

Shouting and nervous outbreaks? No way!
Courtesy and Kindness – key words when we are dealing with other people. One of the best feedbacks that we got from the cast and the technical team was their comments on the atmosphere of tranquility on set. Obviously the production personnel were sorting out problems of logistics and extremely busy all the time. On some days filming went on until 4 in the morning – on the last day for example we went on until daybreak. The directors however, made sure they were always attentive and cordial with all members of the cast and the team. It may have been hard work but making this film was a real pleasure!
